Kiran Karnik was the President of NASSCOM, the “chamber of commerce” for the IT software and services industry in India. Mr. Karnik worked with the industry and the Indian Central & State governments to formulate policies and schemes for the advancement of this aspect at national and international level. He worked for over 20 years in the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Mr. Karnik connected the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) as its first Director. CEC is the apex body established by UGC to supervise the functions of media centers in the universities, and is responsible for ensuring the production and transmission of educational TV programmes for college students.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was launched by Government of NCT of Delhi under the conditions of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998. The University is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), India under section 12B of UGC Act.
